UFL...Are you ready for some football?

The United Football League. This is a new league that will start this fall and for those of you that haven't heard of it yet, here's a little bit about the league. Right now there are only 4 teams. Each will play 6 games with the two best teams playing in one championship game. The first game is October 8, 2009. They will play their games (mostly) on the television station Versus (check your local cable company). The teams are the California Redwoods, the Florida Tuskers (it's supposed to be some kind of wild boar I guess), the New York Sentinels and the Las Vegas Locomotives. I, for one, am excited about this league. Not only because it is new and will bring some of the players that I once watched back to playing football at a high level, but because I think this league will really blow up over the next couple seasons. After reading about it more and more, it seems to be the NBDL of the NFL. They aren't messing around either. Each team is coached by a very well know coach from Dennis Green to Jim Fassel. The teams have mostly guys that were once drafted and kind of slipped through the cracks on an NFL team roster or undrafted guys that just didn't make the cut. Now that Arena Football is gone (not sad about that) and the CFL still around...but when Pacman Jones can get a contract who knows what that league will hold in the future; the UFL is going to give us, the viewers, a chance to see some guys that we watched in college to see if they still "got it."

Just a few players on the teams that I noticed and jumped out at me...being a Husker fan (GO BIG RED) I will first mention Cory Ross. Little 5'10 200 pound running back. He was drafted by Baltimore and had a few snaps with them, but haven't seen him in awhile. Holds the Nebraska school record for receptions and receiving yards in a game by a running back; and if you know Nebraska all we have is running backs! Most excited about watching him run up and down the field like the good ol' days in Cornhusker Land! Another guy that a buddy of mine knows that was really good at UNLV (and if you ask him "has a star under his name on NCAA Football so he must have been good") Casey Flair...gotta do it dude;"WOOOOOO!" Walk on wide receiver from UNLV...walk on people...walk on! Mr. Flair caught at least one pass in 35 consecutive games, I don't know if alot of walk ons even PLAY that many games. Another few notables...QB Brian Johnson from Utah, QB JP Losman from Tulane but most notable for his playing days in Buffalo and LB Maurice Crum from Notre Dame who had an awesome college career but went undrafted.

Michael L. Huyghue is the commissioner of the UFL. He is a sports lawyer and was a long time legal rep for the NFL Players Union so he knows how to work players on and off the field. He was also the VP for the Detroit Lions and the Jacksonville Jaguars. One player that he represents I have spoke about already...Pacman Jones; I am sure we will see him soon in the UFL.

With all that said, I really believe that this will be a league to watch out for if not now, in the upcoming seasons. Can't wait to be honest. It will give football fans the excitement and highlight plays of the NFL with the "I want to win" mind set of the NCAA. Check out wecoversports.com to make sure you keep up to date with all the scores and any upcoming news with what's going on. Later for now guys and, if any gals read this stuff....BK OUT.

This looks like its gonna be a good league. Only issues I see is its only in 4 cities and minor league football is never successful. Hope it does well.

Football is so popular in this country. If this is marketed right it should do well.

To my understanding there is only 4teams at this time...and yes it is paid to the players. I just got an email from the UFL website that said that they just added more players too...I really hope there are more teams that come up soon...i think this will be a great league once it gets going.
