Surprising Pac-10

I'm a USC fan, and have some love for Cal as well (family reasons), but what is up with USC being 6-2 and Cal being 5-3? These were the two teams who were expected to run the Pac-10 and the game between them would basically be the Pac-10 championship. Not to mention that USC was ranked #1 for awhile there and Cal #2 for a week. Now we have Arizona State at 8-0 leading the Pac-10 and 5th in the nation, and Oregon at 7-1, second in Pac-10 and 5th in the nation. This was unexpected for any Pac-10 fan besides a Sun Devil and Duck. How great is it that these two teams play this weekend. The Pac-10 is just money this year. UCLA actually has a better conference record than USC and Cal. The game this weekend though between ASU and ORE is going to be phenomenal and if Oregon wins (my prediction to come later this week) Dennis Dixon needs to be up there with Matt Ryan for Heisman Trophy candidates. I think what happened to USC and Cal though is the fact that they are both fairly young teams. Both are obviously very talented but both are having mental issues. USC has a ridiculous amount of penalties every game and Cal has lost three straight now after losing the first one to Oregon State. I think Cal's problem right now is they haven't recovered from their first loss because their hopes were so high. Its a crazy year in College football, and don't be surprised if not one team finishes undefeated. ---CJ
