World Series 2007, Colts or Patriots, 0-16 by CJ Prutch

World Series 2007

Tonight’s Game 1 of the 2007 World Series is going to be like none we have ever seen. On the American League side we have the Boston Red Sox who are one of sports’ most prolific franchises and were heavy favorites to win the World Series when the season started. The Red Sox have stars up and down the lineup with Manny, Big Papi, Beckett, and Dice-K, just to name a few. As for the Rockies, they have a lot of guy’s we’ve never heard of until this recent surge of winning. They do have Holliday, who should be the leagues MVP, and then plenty of young stars like Tulowitzki, Matsui, Fogg, and Francis, along with the face of the Rockies in Todd Helton. It’s just crazy to see this as the World Series, considering the Rockies have never been to the playoffs in their somewhat short franchise history up against the Red Sox who are the story-book franchise in baseball behind the Yankees. I like to say they are ahead of the Yankees now since everyone hates the Yankees and the Yankees don’t win the World Series anymore, at least not in the 2000’s. I think this series will go seven games and it will be everything fans want it to be. The Rockies aren’t going to fade away like some critics think because of the break they had after sweeping both teams in the playoffs. They are hot as ever and ready to take o the Red Sox. Unfortunately for them, the Red Sox are hot now too having won three straight while facing elimination. I think the difference in this series is going to be Beckett. He is the real deal and is the difference when it comes to each teams starting pitching. If Beckett pitches like he did in the ALCS then the Red Sox will win this series and they will probably do it in six. I don’t think Beckett can go to Colorado though and pitch like he has all playoffs. Coors Field will be rockin’ like crazy. What more would you expect though from fans who are seeing their team in their first World Series. Even though the Rockies are the hottest team in baseball, it still seems like the series is David vs. Goliath. I’m going to say that the Red Sox win this series 4-3 and the X-factor is simply going to be experience. I know that the young players on the Rockies don’t give a hoot about experience but the World Series is a whole other level and I think the experience of the Red Sox in this atmosphere will be the difference in winning the World Series. It’s going to be all about the pressure situations. I’m saying Go Rockies, but I think the Red Sox will be victorious.

Colts or Patriots?

We keep hearing this question all week and we probably will hear it until week 9 when the two teams square off in Indy. I don’t think we can pick who is better right now. Yeah, the Patriots are crushing everyone in their path, but the Colts still are the defending Superbowl champions and they are beating everyone as well. Each team is 7-0 and both teams are firing on all cylinders. I think that if each team wanted to they could go undefeated if they didn’t play each other but both Tony Dungy and Bill Belichick don’t care about being 16-0 anyway because it is the Superbowl that matters and having your team healthy and ready for the super bowl. Week 9’s match up between the Colts and Patriots might as well be the Superbowl since these are the obvious two best teams. The Patriots are ranked 1st in offense and 4th in defense, while the Colts are ranked 3rd in offense and 3rd in defense. So both teams are very balances and very powerful on both sides of the ball. Also, both teams have played pretty much the same strength of schedule so it is very hard to say who the best team is right now. Let the game decide who is best because numbers don’t mean anything until it is settled on the field. I am also hearing a lot of question about who is the better quarterback, Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. I think this is a stupid question, both are obviously far better than any other Quarterback in the NFL and both have already proven their stature with the Super Bowl rings, MVP honors and their career numbers. Right now Tom Brady is having a better season, but he is competing against Manning for having the best season of all time. Both are 7-0 and both are favorites to be in the Superbowl. To me, it wouldn’t matter which Quarterback is on my team if it was between them two. Both are amazing and both will be everything you want in an NFL quarterback. I am not going to make a prediction on the game yet of who wins just yet but the game is going to be the best game of the regular season.

0-16

I was just talking about the two best teams in the NFL so now I think I would like to discuss the two worst teams in the NFL, and they would be the St. Louis Rams and the Miami Dolphins. I don’t think either team can seriously go 0-16 because that just doesn’t happen anymore but they each pose a serious case for that winless title. I think the Rams will get a win first because they are getting their stars aligned again. Marc Bulger is back of the Injured List, and event though he was terrible in his return I think he will be fine after a few weeks back as long as his weak offensive line can protect him some more. I also think that the Rams will get their first win soon because they are getting Stephen Jackson back, who was supposed to be one of the top 3 running backs in the league this year. Once they both get back, there is no way they can go winless with Bulger, Jackson, and Holt starting. Now for the Dolphins, their situation is the opposite as they keep losing players. First, they lose star Quarterback Trent Green to a concussion that will sideline him the rest of the season and possibly his career, then they trade their best Wide Receiver in Chris Chambers to the San Diego Chargers for 2008 draft picks, and then the worst news came this pat Sunday when they lost running back Ronnie Brown for the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL. Ronnie Brown was the number one running back in the NFL thus far by being 4th in rushing yards, 2nd in rushing touchdowns, and 1st in receiving yards for a running back. Not to mention he rushed for 100 yards in every game leading up to last week. Personally, I’m bitter about Brown because he is on my fantasy football team, but that’s beside the point. With all this that has happened to the Dolphins one has to think that they could very well go 0-16 for the 2007 season. At least there is hope because they are in a division where they have to play 2-4 Bill and the 1-7 Jets twice. On the bright side they would get the number 1 pick in next years draft, maybe this time they won’t pass up a Quarterback like they did with Brady Quinn last year.
